of erection, may be made to any Correspondent awarded a

Building Grant under this Code towards the furnishing of

the aided school building.

Provided that

(a) the furniture in respect of which assistance.

is sought is

(i) of a permanent or semi-permanent character

(ii) in the opinion of the Director necessary for

school purposes and appropriate in quality, quantity and

cost to the school concerned;

(iii) of a type approved by the Director;

and (b) the furniture of the school as a whole is

approved by the Director.

(5) METHOD OF CALCULATING AVERAGE ATTENDANCE.

13. For the purpose of calculating average attendance

the attendances of pupils over a period are added together

and divided by the number of days the school has met during that period.

14. A pupil is regarded as attending when he has been

present throughout a session of at least 2 hours. He

cannot keep more than two attendances on any one day nor

more than 1 on a half-holiday.

15. A school is regarded as meeting twice on any day,

excepting a half holiday, on which two sessions each of at

least two hours duration are held. Otherwise it is

regarded as meeting once only on any day.

DEFINITIONS.

"Director" means the Director of Education.

Vernacular Schools are schools in which the

Chinese language is the principal medium of instruction.

Rural Schools means schools in the New

Territories, excepting New Kowloon.

Urban Schools means schools in the Colony other
