No. 756.
Sir,
0!
GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONG KONG,
11th October, 1938.
180
I have the honour to refer to my despatch
No.104 of 4th February, 1938, and your telegram No.73
of 22nd April, 1938, on the subject of the payment of
certain leave salaries and pensions at fixed rates of
exchange.
2. A resolution was adopted in the Legislative
Council on 1st June, 1938, to the effect that the
resolution of Council adopted on 2nd August, 1902,
requiring pensions to be paid in England from the Widows
s.d. and Orphans' Pension Fund at 3/- to the dollar shall not
apply to any pension granted after 1st June, 1938.
In
accordance with your directions the effect of this change.
has been communicated to all officers now on pension and
representations have been received from Mr. E. J.
Pierpoint, who is now in receipt of a dollar pension
s.d.
convertible at the rate of 3/8 to the dollar, requesting
that consideration be given to the prospective diminution
in the pension to which his wife would be entitled in the
event of his death.
3. On further consideration it seems to me that
where an officer is on a dollar pension and is drawing
it at the privileged rate of exchange his contributions
