the present scheme of rent allowances without the
deduction of 6 per cent of salary payable under the
old scale, i.e. at the rate of $250 per month where
the salary exceeds £1400 per annum and $200 per
month where it exceeds £1100 but does not exceed
£1400 per annum. I suggest that a reference to
the payment of such rent allowance should be included
in any offers of appointment.

Finally, offers of appointment in such
cases should specify "free partially furnished
quarters".
