No.60.

Secret.

With reference to telegram No. 424 to Foreign Office from

His Mejesty's Ambassador in China. Enquiry has been made by

Foreign Office whether there is any objection to Consul General

at Canton entering into discussions with local Chinese

authorities with a view to arrangements being made in case of

emergency for storing rolling stock and other moveable property

of the Kowloon-Cunton Railway at Kowloon for safety. I have

replied that I have no objection subject to any local considera-

tions on which you may wish to offer observations. I have asked

that in formulating any detailed proposals Consul General may

be instructed to keep in close consultation with you.
