Now that Japanese forces he occupied Canton, we have

to contemplate a possible demand from them that the

railway facilities should continue to be available to

them for war supplies, and we were warned by the

Governor that any such use of the railway would

inevitably be followed by a port and railway strike

in the Colony.

Mr. Howe considered it possible that the

Japanese might not make any such demand since it might

occur
