1.9 END

Dear Macdonald

Is the Colonial Office making, through

the Foreign Office, representations to the

Japanese to ensure the continuance of food

supplies to Hong Kong?

The Island, I am told, draws nearly all

its food from the mainland and there is a real

risk of disease and starvation if the new

Japanese military operations in Southern China

isolate Hong Kong.

1 feel sure there must be many in the

country interested in the fortunes of Hong

Kong.

Jours Sincerely

Efford Fox.

The Rt. Hon. Malcolm MacDonald, M.P.,

Colonial Office,

Downing Street, S.W.1.
