required to follow the procedure governing entrance as
provided for in Article 3. After proceeding to the river
off Tiger Island, an outgoing merchant vessel is required to
follow the procedure governing port-leaving as provided
for in Article 5.
9. If, in the course of her voyage up from Hongkong,
a merchant vessel should find a Japanese warship taking
advantage of the situation by following in her wake to
Bocca Tigris, she should turn back promptly to Hongkong,
or the Chinese Government can assume no responsibility for
any loss which she may sustain as a result of firing from
the Chinese forts.
10. With the exception of Sundays, all merchant vessels
coming in or going out through Bocca Tigris may be piloted
from after 8 a.m. till 6 p.m. daily. Navigation shall be
entirely prohibited at hours and dates other than those
specified above. No merchant vessels, irrespective of
size, shall be permitted to navigate at night on waters
between Bocca Tigris and Canton.
11. These measures are applicable to all merchant
vessels coming in or going out through the channel of the
(Pearl) River except those of Japanese nationality.
12. For violation of any of the Articles of these
measures, a merchant vessel will be prohibited from
navigation on these waters at any time.
13. The Temporary Measures previously promulgated
governing passage of merchant vessels through the channel
of Bocca Tigris will lose their validity on the date of
the promulgation of these measures.
14. These measures are subject to amendment at any
time, if necessary.
