With reference to Colonial Office letter No.

3838/5/38 of the 8th December, regarding claims for

compensation in respect of damage done on the British

side of the Hong Kong border, I am directed by Viscount

Halifax to inform you that he concurs in the action

suggested. His Majesty's Ambassador at Tokyo is

accordingly being instructed to present the claim to

the Japanese Government as soon as possible after its

receipt from Hong Kong, provided that he does not wish

to call in question any of the items of which it will be

composed.
