years.
The master of the junk is CHEUNG CHIK LIN, aged about 63
He was also born at Shaukivan.
I have worked for one year on this junk, which is over
1000 piouls in capacity. At 09.00 hours on 27.4.38, the junk left
Shaukiwan on a fishing trip. On board there were 23 males including
the master and myself, 7 children and 10 females, making a total of
40 persons.
We had two old cannons and about 10 lbs of shot which
were all kept in the hold.
After leaving Shaukiwan we sailed to a spot in Chinese
Waters a long way south-west of Waglan where we fished until 18.00
hours on 2.5.38. It was our intention then to return to Shanki wan
with our catch, but as the wind was against us and a typhoon was
approaching, we sailed down to MAN SHAN (Great Ladrones) to take
shelter. We could not take shelter at Aberdeen or any other place
on the south side of Hong Kong because the wind was against us.
We reached MAN SHAN at 10.00 hours on 3.5.38, and when about to
anchor we noticed a warship about two miles away near Macao, We
decided to sail away, and attempted to proceed towards Hong Kong, but
a little later we noticed two motor boats being lowered from the war-
ship. These two boats overtook us. There were about ten Japanese
in each boat dressed in Khaki uniform and armed with short swords,
