His Majesty's Government are further in no

doubt that Japanese naval ratings did in fact land on

longkong territory. This is borne out by the evidence

of a number of witnesses examined by the police on the

morning following the incident, including the First

Officer of the Custoas oruiser who, as mentioned above,

was left behind by the Captain at the time when the

cruiser was besched. (There are moreover good grounds

for believing that the naval ratings made off with some

poultry).

be reexamined by the competent authorities in the light of the considerations set forth in the preceding para-

graphs.
