with reference to Colonial office letter

No. 53838/23/38, dated the 7th April, 1938, enclosing

copies of statements from the Captain, the Chief Engineer

and the wireless Operator of the s.s. ASIAN, concerning the

arrest of the vessel by a Japanese warship on the 7th

February last, I am commanded by My Lords Commissioners of

the Admiralty to transmit, for the information of the

Board of Trade, a copy of a report from the Commander-in-

Chief, China Station, on the action which has been taken to

remind British shipping firms and Harbour Authorities in

Hong Kong of the importance attached by the Royal Naval

Authorities to the receipt of reports from Masters of

British merchant ships regarding unusual occurrences in the

future.

Copies of this letter, with enclosures, have been sent to the Foreign office and the Colonial Office.
