payment of £97.19s. Od. to the

Foreign Office on 25th August 1938.

A despatch from the Governor of Hong Kong to the

Secretary of State ref. No.522 of 4th July, 1938, concluded as

follows:-

"There remains a balance of $1,656.45 at credit of

the Foreign Office as shown in the statement attached and I propose to remit this sum to His Majesty's Consul-General, Shanghai who has requested that any refund due may be made through him".

This remittance was duly made to the Consul-General,

Shanghai, on July 29th and his receipt for the amount obtained.

From the above, it will be seen that payment was made

by you to the Foreign Office after the Shanghai Refugees account

had been settled with the Consul-General, Shanghai and in the

circumstances, I would suggest that you approach the Foreign

Office with a request for a refund of the sum of £97.198.Od.
