Managing Director of Canton-Hankow railway has approached this Government asking whether land in Kowloon could be acquired en sale or lease by private company formed under Hong Kong Companies Ordinance with the object oferection and repair of Chinese railway locomotives and commercial rolling stock.
Company woula
unquestionably be financed from Chinese public funds. Physical connexion with Kowloon-Canton railway would be necessary. I am unaware whether suitable area is obtainable but propose subject to your concurrence to reply that there is no objection in principle. I should be grateful for an early reply.
