the same.

(b) Comparison with other professional officers of the Service

Appendix IV shows the proposed basic salaries for the

various professional officers of the Service and indicates the

A. C. 's appraisal of the relative values of their services.

19. The Medical officer and the Engineer pursue a similar

course of training and whereas the former sometimes takes a longer period in obtaining practical experience before joining the local Service this is compensated for by the difference in

starting salaries. With this distinction and in the amount of

the increments, the old scales of salaries for both Medical

officer and Engineer acknowledge, at the maximum, virtual

equality of value. But whereas the maximum of the proposed

scales shows a reduction of £200 for the Engineer a reduction of

only £30 is shown for the Medical Officer. We submit that there

is no justification for changing the assessment of the relative

values of these two professional grades.
