H.K.V.D.C. No.16/38.

Subject: Alliances.

The Honourable

H.V.D.C. HEADQUARTERS,

Hong Kong, 12th September, 1938.

The Colonial Secretary.

Sir,

(1)

With reference to the attached copy of a letter

from the Colonel Commandant, Royal Army Pay Corps, I have the

honour to request that sanction may be given for an alliance

between the Royal Army Pay Corps and the Pay Section of the

Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps.

(2) The Pay Section of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence

Corps was formed on 1st June 1937 and now consists of one

Captain, 5 Warrant Officers and 9 Sergeants.

(3) The Section's duties in the event of mobilization

are exactly the same as those of the Royal Army Pay Corps,

under whose direction they would work. The Section is trained

for those duties during peace time by Warrant Officers of the

Royal Army Pay Corps under the direction of the Command

Paymaster, China Command.

(4) I am of the opinion that should the alliance be

sanctioned the close liaison which already exists between the

Royal Army Pay Corps and the Pay Section, Hong Kong Volunteer

Defence Corps, would be firmly cemented and the Pay Section in

particular would be proud of and benefit from the greater

kinship resulting from the alliance.

I have, &c.,

(Sd.) H. B. Rose,

Lt.-Colonel,

Commandant, Hong Kong Volunteer

Defence Corps.
