The provision of free quarters, servants, fuel, lighting and

house linen are the same in both Services. After allowing for

the higher cost of living in Malaya, the salary of the Hong

Kong Nursing Sister is disproportionately lower.

5. Your Petitioners humbly submit that a more equitable

scale of salary for the Nursing Staff in Hong Kong would be:-

Principal Matron £500

The holders of Specialist positions (i.e. Dietetic

Sister, V.D. Sister and Tutor Sister) in addition to the scale

salary should receive a specialist allowance of £30 per annum.

The X-Ray Sister should be brought up on to the scale

£20-£460, with the same

of salary of Masseuses, namely £380

privileges and allowances. This is a specialist position with

no opportunity of promotion above the scale.
