Sir,

C. O. REGY

With reference to your letter of the 2nd December

(53712/5/38) regarding a petition addressed to the

Governor of Hong Kong on behalf of persons claiming to

following the sinking of the s.s. "Thorpeness" on the

21st June last, I am directed by the Board of Trade to

state, for the information of Mr. Secretary MacDonald,

that they have been in communication with the owners of

the vessel on the matter. The owners, in turn, have

passed the correspondence to Messrs. P. B. Pandelis

Limited of 13, St. Mary Axe, E.C.3, who were managing

the vessel at the time of loss. The latter firm have

now requested the Board to obtain information as to

whether the deceased Chinaman was married or single and

as to the number of his family. The Managers say that

The Under-Secretary of State,

Colonial Office,
