Dear Sirs,
7th June, 1939. (Wednesday)
RE S.S."THORPENESS
CHEUNG KWAI WAN decd.
We thank you for your letter of the 5th inst.
together with enclosure, from the Board of Trade but
you will appreciate that is very difficult to obtain any
dtaails which would assist you in arriving at the extent
of any dependency, as the modes of living in China are
very different, neither can we get an agreement recorded
in respect of any sum paid. We think it is reasonable
to assume that the widow and child of the deceased would
be dependent to some extent and for this reason the ex-
gratia offer of £25.0.0. was made. We regret therefore
that we are unable to advise our Principals to increase
the same.
Yours faithfully,
E.R. LLOYD & CO.,
