5. Except as otherwise expressly provided and without prejudice to the generality of the powers conferred on the editor by Ordinance No. 51 of 1936, wherever in any Ordin- ance any expression occurs which contains a reference to any enactment whatsoever or to any portion of any enactment or to any form prescribed in connexion therewith, the editor may

(1) omit the words "of this Ordinance", "to this Ordin- ance", "of this section", "of this sub-section", "of this Part", "hereto", "hereof", and words of like import:

(2) adopt a convenient standard form for such re- ferences, and make formal alterations therein:

(3) if the enactment to which reference is made has been repealed and replaced by some other provision, substitute a reference to that other provision,

and such alteration or substitution shall be deemed to have been made by this Ordinance.

6. Without prejudice to the generality of the powers conferred on the editor by Ordinance No. 51 of 1936—

(1) in pursuance of the Director of Medical and Sanitary Services (Change of Name) Ordinance, 1936, wherever in any Ordinance the words "Director of Medical and Sanitary Services" or "Principal Civil Medical Officer" or "Colonial Surgeon" occur, there shall be substituted therefor the words "Director of Medical Services", and wherever in any Ordin- ance the words "Deputy Director of Medical and Sanitary Services" occur there shall be substituted therefor the words "Deputy Director of Medical Services":

(2) in pursuance of the provisions of the Public Officers (Changes of Style) Ordinance, 1937, wherever in any Ordin- ance the words "Inspector General of Police" or "Captain Superintendent of Police" occur, there shall be substituted therefor the words "Commissioner of Police", wherever in any Ordinance the words "Deputy Inspector General of Police" occur, there shall be substituted therefor the words "Deputy Commissioner of Police", and wherever in any Ordinance the words "Police Probationer" occur there shall be substituted therefor the words "Police Cadet".

(3) Wherever in any Ordinance the words "Victoria Gaol", "the Gaol" or "gaol" occur, there shall be substituted therefor the words "a prison", "prison", or such words of similar import as the editor may determine, with or without a reference to the Prisons Ordinance, 1932,

7. This Ordinance shall come into operation by pro- clamation of the Governor, which shall not be issued before the first of the proclamations referred to in section 9 (2) of Ordinance No. 51 of 1936, and which may form part of such proclamation.
