for the sale of the plant on a commission basis and a number of large items of plant were sold

Towards the end of 1937, however,

notice was given that Government desired to

terminate this arrangement with effect from 1st

January, 1938. Subsequently necessity arose of

effecting repair work to the Pineapple Pass Dam which has been the subject of separate

correspondence and Mr. Hull agreed to accept

responsibility for the supervision of that work,

for which some of the plant in question was

required. An unexpected difficulty also arose,

owing to the extreme pressure on the available

storage space in the Colony, in the actual

factors caused delay in the transfer but the

whole of the plant was taken over later in the

small items have now been either sold by auction

or taken into stock by the Public Works or Railway

Departments and the remaining plant is in the

custody of the Controller of Stores.

These two

Sales are

still being made as opportunity offers but it is

now anticipated that some of the plant may be

required for new water works which are in

contemplation. The question referred to by the

Auditor regarding the derrick which was transferred

to a private company has now been satisfactorily

settled, the derrick having been purchased by the

company.
