Sir,
I have the honour to refer to correspondence, bearing
Your Excellency's number X/14136/AQ, on the subject of a pro-
posed Military Hospital on the mainland.
2. Having examined the various sites on 7th April, 1937, in company with the Colonial Secretary and the Director of
Public Works I have reached the conclusion that it would be
inadvisable to select for this purpose any site which would
either interfere with the existing playing fields at King's
Park or obstruct probable extensions of those playing fields.
On these grounds I must oppose the site marked on the plan
which accompanied Your Excellency's letter, numbered as above,
dated 21st August, 1936.
3. To the northward of the area mentioned in the last
paragraph there is a considerable area on a hill-top which
would not seem to require much levelling to make it, in my
opinion, a desirable site for the purpose. You may care to
have a preliminary exploration of this aree with a representative
of the Director of Public Works.
4.
Alternatively there is an area of nearly 14 acres
lying to the westward of La Salle Road and to the northward
of New Kowloon Inland Lot No.2506 and New Kowloon Inland Lot
No.1136 which I understand has already been considered by
Colonel Blake. I can at present see no objection to this
site being used for the purpose of a Military Hospital.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your Excellency's most obedient servant,
(SD) A. CALD ECOTT.
His Excellency the General Officer
Commanding the British Troops in China,
HONG KING,
Governor.
