Head 13. Kowloon - Canton Railway.

increased cost of coal and increased running charges.

Head 17. Medical Department + $338,432

The Medical Department has been considerably extended,

in particular by the re-organisation and extension

of the Health Division. This has been discussed and

approved elsewhere and increased provision must be

regarded as urgently necessary. A Deputy Director

of Health Services and additional Health Officers

and Medical Officers will be appointed in 1939.

This head showed an increase owing to the number of

miscellaneous items

which have not re-occurred.

There is also a decrease under broadcasting of

The Colony's Pension Bill has steadily

grown in recent years owing to the inevitable increases

in staff and in emoluments. It will be some time

before the recent revisions of salaries by which

The increase is partly due to the taking over by the

Police of Passport work formerly done by the Colonial
