No. 694.
Sir,
27 SEP 1938

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONG KONG,
15th September, 1938.
I have the honour to acknowledge the
2 receipt of your despatch No. 219 dated 14th July, 1938,
regarding a petition from the Bishop of Hong Kong on
the subject of Inland Lot No.76.
1
2.
It is noted that the petition was wrongly
The
addressed to you and it will be considered to have been
addressed to me for the purpose of further action. Bishop did in fact originally address this Government but was advised to petition you in the usual manner.
3.
With reference to the third and fourth
paragraphs of your despatch under reference, I would confirm that the petitioner desires: (a) a licence to assign the Crown lease as to the part of the property containing the warden's house and (b) a licence to
whoever may be the assignee to disregard the terms of
the covenant as to the use to be made of the property
thus assigned.
4.
As regards the increase in rent referred to in the last paragraph of my despatch No.321 dated 20th April, 1938, the proposal is that in the event
of the required licences being granted, the rent of
the assigned portion only should be increased.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
R.
MALCOLM MACDONALD, M.P.,
