Service, and an average of 1.84 for the larger public

services in Hong Kong under the new standard time-scales.

The practical bearing of the above is well

illustrated in the case of a Surveyor who recently re- transferred from this office to the Board of Trade Staff,

and who now has, with the increased number of Senior

Surveyorships, a salary-career-expectation of at least £800,

despite the fact that his re-entry into the Board of Trade service took place when he was over 40 years of age.

It would appear that the information now most

respectfully submitted, further establishes that the salary scales set forth in our petition (Table B) rest on a substantial basis, both as regards general conformity with the C.R.I.F.'s provided by published time-scale salaries (General Order Amendment No.20 of 12th March, 1937), and the relative status of offices, identical with those of your humble petitioners, in other parts of the Empire.

7.

I humbly crave that this submission may be placed before His Excellency with an earnest plea that it may receive his sympathetic consideration.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient, humble servant,

(sd.) W. 0. Lambert,

The Honourable Mr. R. A. C. North,

Colonial Secretary,

Hong Kong.

Government Marine Surveyor.
