Sir,
MERCANTILE MARINE DEPARTMENT,
BOARD OF TRADE,
GREAT GEORGE STREET,
538
LONDON, S.W.1.
29th June, 1938.
With reference to Mr. H.R. Cowell's letter of the
8th June (No. 53712/1/38) respecting the proposed revision
of the salaries of the Government Marine Surveyors in
Hong Kong, I am directed by the Board of Trade to state,
for the information of Mr. Secretary MacDonald, that they
concur generally in the course of action now proposed.
I am to add that it is presumed that the proposals
will be discussed locally, and that if the revised scales
of pay are likely to affect the fees chargeable to ship-
owners, opportunity will be afforded to local shipping
interests to make such representations as they may consider
to be necessary.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
The Under-Secretary of State.
Colonial Office,
S.W. 1.
