Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your
confidential (2) despatch of 22nd August, 1939, regarding
salaries and titles of Government Marine Surveyors and
note your approval of the proposed changes in titles and
proposed new salary scales.

With regard to the absorption of serving officers
on to the new scales I intimated in my confidential despatch
of 25th August, 1939, that I had come to the conclusion
that the terms proposed by me in my confidential despatch 8 of 12th October, 1938, were unnecessarily generous and had
suggested treatment identical with that proposed by you in
paragraph 4 of your despatch under acknowledgment.
proposal, i.e. absorption of serving officers at the
incremental point commensurate with their length of service,
has accordingly been adopted.

That
I enclose a note for comunication to the Board of
Trade on the present grading and salaries etc. of the
sub-department.
