My French colleague had a disagreeable interview about

Indo-Chinese arms traffic today with Minister for Foreign

Affairs who hinted that local French authorities were keeping

the French Government in the dark as to the quantity of material

crossing the frontier illicitly. Despite Ambassador's

insistence the Minister for Foreign Affairs failed to produce

any concrete evidence in support of the allegation.

to similar insistence at earlier interview the Minister for

Foreign Affairs had produced long list of cases in which

munitions were alleged to have been forwarded but with one

exception no particulars had been produced permitting of

adequate investigation on the spot. After reference to

Paris and Saigon Ambassador had been authorised to deny the

allegations in toto.
