HONG KONG

SECHET.

194

Downing Street,

26 July, 1938.

sir,

I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of

your secret despatch of the 18th of June and to thank

you for the statements of munitions exported to Chine

from Hong Kong which were enclosed therein.

2.

I presume that it is not possible without

considerable difficulty to obtain figures for the

approximate value of all consignments. If this presumption

is correct the last column of the return, giving the total known value of consignments, may be omitted, though

I should be obliged if the value of individual

consignments might be inserted in the other columns

wherever possible. If however it is possible to ascertain approximately the total value of all consignments I should

be obliged if these figures could be given, as they would be useful for comparative purposes.

3.

Further I should be obliged if an additional

copy of the return might be furnished in the future.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient,

humble servant,

(Signed) MALCOLM MarDONALD,

GOVERNOR

SIR GEOFFHY NORTHCOTE, K.C.M.G.

etc.,

eto..

etc.
