Mr. Talbot of the F.0. rang up on Friday to

say that the United States authorities had asked for

rather fuller information tnan that contained in the

specimen summary which we nad sent to Hong Kong. He

was not clear as to exactly what information they

would require, and I suggested that Hong Hong would

probably object to preparing very detailed statements,

and that it might be best if the U.S. Consul-General

in confidener were merely furnished with duplicates of the weekly

returns sent us, and which we have now told Hong Kong

to discontinue.

Mr. Talbot agreed, and I attach draft

telegram for conson.
