request through diplomatic channels, Mr. Ormsby Gore

would see no objection to information being given

periodically to the United States Ambassador based on

the particulars contained in the weekly telegrams from

the Governor in which the figures are given of exports

of munitions to China by rail from the Colony.

It is however appreciated that those figures

as explained in the Governor's secret despatch of the

3rd of March, a copy of which was communicated to the

Foreign Office in the note from this Department of the

25th March, are not assessed with accuracy, and moreover

the United States request is for information on a more

extensive scale. If Lord Halifax so desires

Mr. Ormsby Gore will be prepared to ask the Governor in

due course to send at intervals by air mail such fuller

information as may be available for communication to

the United States authorities.
