I am directed by Viscount Halifax to state that,
according to a telegram received from His Majesty's
Ambassador at Tokyo, his Military Attaché was informed
recently by the Japanese General Staff that Germany has now
stopped the sale of arms by her nationals to China. His
Majesty's Ambassador at Berlin is being asked whether he has
any information tending to confirm or controvert this
statement. Meanwhile Lord Halifax would be grateful if
telegraphic enquiries in the same sense could be made of the
Governor of Hong Kong should Mr. Ormsby-Gore see no objection.
I am,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
Cow, Orde
The Under-Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
