I have etc. to acknowledge

the receipt of your despatch No. 872

of the 29th November, 1938, on the

subject of the King Edward VII

Scholarships at Hong Kong University.

2. I note that the considerable

balance available in the scholarships Account

Account is due to a drop in the number

of scholarships awarded during recent

years. I approve the proposal that

the surplus should be used for

increasing the number of scholarships

to be granted in the next few years,

and I shall be glad to receive, in

due course, details of the scheme

which is finally agreed upon.
