(2) Such interest shall be computed from the first day of the calendar month next following the day on which a complete pound shall have been deposited, or on which deposits of a less amount shall have made up a complete pound, and shall cease on the first day of the calendar month in which moneys are withdrawn.

(3) For the purposes of this Regulation a deposit shall be deemed to be withdrawn on the date of the issue of the Warrant by means of which payment is intended to be effected.

(4) Interest after the rate and subject to the conditions aforesaid will be calculated to the 31st December in every year, and will then be added to and become part of the principal

money.

83.-(1) Every depositor shall once in each year, on the anni- versary of the day on which he made his first deposit (unless he has sent it for any purpose during the twelve calendar months preceding such date), and at any other time when required by the Postmaster-General. forward his Deposit Book to the Con- troller of the Post Office Savings Bank in a cover to be obtained at any Savings Bank Office, in order that the entries in the said Deposit Book may be compared with the entries in the Books of the Postmaster-General and that the interest due to the depositor may be inserted in his Deposit Book.

(2) The preceding sub-clause of this Regulation shall not apply to a Coupon Deposit Book, but a depositor holding a Coupon Deposit Book shall submit the book to the Controller of the Post Office Savings Bank for examination when required by the Controller so to do.

84.--(1) If any depositor shall lose his Deposit Book or Coupon Deposit Book and shall desire a new Book, application must be made by him to the Postmaster-General by letter stating the circumstances, and enclosing stamps or a postal order of the value of one shilling. Such letter should be addressed to the Controller of the Post Office Savings Bank.

(2) Upon receiving such application the Postmaster-General may, if he thinks fit, issue a new Book to the applicant.

(3) If in the opinion of the Postmaster-General any Deposit Book or Coupon Deposit Book has been tampered with or is in such a condition as to render the issue of a new book desirable, the Postmaster-General may, if he think fit, require the surrender and cancellation of such book and issue a new book to the depositor and charge therefor the sum of one shilling.

(4) The Postmaster-General may pay any sum in respect of any amount in the Post Office Savings Bank without the pro- duction of the Deposit Book, where he is satisfied that the depositor or other claimant is entitled to receive such sum.

(5) The Postmaster-General may at his discretion require a depositor holding a Coupon Deposit Book to surrender his Book and take in exchange a Deposit Book showing the total amount standing to his credit in the Post Office Savings Bank, or require

a depositor who holds a Deposit Book showing the total amount standing to his credit in the Bank to surrender such Book in exchange for a Coupon Deposit Book, provided that in the latter case such total amount does not exceed £1,

85.-(1) Where a first deposit is made by a person who cannot Marksmen. write, his mark must be affixed to the prescribed declaration in the presence of a witness who must certify that such declaration lias before being made by the depositor been first audibly, clearly, and distinctly read over to him in the presence and hearing of the witness, when the depositor appeared perfectly to under- stand the same, and made his mark thereto in the presence of the witness.

(2) Where the depositor cannot write, any authority to receive the amount payable on a Warrant must be executed or signed by the depositor in accordance with the provisions of this Regu- lation as to the making of the prescribed declaration by a person who cannot write, so far as such provisions are applicable.

(3) Where the person to whom a Warrant is made payable cannot write, he must, when he presents the Warrant for pay- ment, affix his mark to the receipt at the foot of the Warrant in the presence of some person who is known to the Paying Officer, and who can identify the person applying for the money as the person named in the Warrant.
