REPORT BY THE DIRECTOR OF THE
EVENING INSTITUTE, 1937.
Classes opened for seven months and met in Queen's College, Belilios Public School, Trade School, Junior Technical School, Quarry Bay and Hung Hom for instruction in the following subjects:- English, Field Surveying, Building, Engineering, Ship-building, Hygiene, Pedagogy (English and Vernacular), Book Keeping and Physical Instruction. Owing to lack of students there were no classes in Electrical Engineering, Shorthand classes were again formed in October.
Technical Classes under the Supervisor, Mr. G. White, B.Sc., A.M.I.Mech. E., continue their activities. Students in Building Classes who are recommended by the Supervisor usually secure employment at once, and later have no difficulty in obtaining promotion to the grade of "Apprentice Foreman".
Altogether there were 41 classes (same as in 1936) and the number of students enrolled was 871 (781 in 1936).
2. The amount of fees received was $9,378 ($8,645 in 1936). The expenditure was $25,296.38 ($23,958.22 in 1936). The average cost per student was $18.28 ($19.61 in 1986).
