of Director of that line,

Mr. Li Luchao representing the Chinese Section of the

Canton-Kowloon Railway..

Mr.R.D.Walker representing the British Section of the

Kowloon-Canton Railway,

in order to discuss working arrangements.

Mr.R.D.Walker visited Canton on the 25th August,

1937, and in the morning inspected the connection between the Canton-Kowloon Railway and the Canton-Hankow Railway

at Kilometre 8.2. In the afternoon of the same day, Mr.

Walker had a discussion on various relevant points with

Mr. Tseng Yang-Fu.

After a number of meetings between Mr. Walker and Mr. Chen had taken place, a draft Working Agreement was prepared and forwarded to the Hon. C.S. on 30th August, 1937. This received approval in principle by the Governor-in-Council

on 4th October, 1937.

The finalised draft agreement was completed and

forwarded to Hon. C.S. on 1st October, 1937.

The period of validity of this Agreement was

limited to two years commencing from November 1st, 1937.

Reference to passenger service was not included

in the Agreement, it being the opinion of Mr. C.M. Chen that large numbers of passengers could not be dealt with during the period the Agreement was in force.
