Sir,
I have the honour to refer to your secret
19 telegram No. 165 of 22nd August, 1938, regarding the
proposal for a transit tax in Kwangtung province,
and to forward herewith for your information a copy
of a telegram from His Majesty's Consul-General,
Canton addressed to His Majesty's Ambassador,
Shanghai, which indicates that the proposal is not
now being further pressed.
