He will be responsible to the Director of Medical Services for the supervision and immediate control of all officers serving in the Health Division and for organising, correlating and directing the activities of the Health Officers, Urban Areas, and New Territories, Port and Quarantine, Schools, Social Hygiene Centres, Maternal and Child Welfare Centres. Duties
to include the control of infectious diseases, anti-epidemic work, vaccination, registration of births and deaths, public health propaganda including training of Health Inspectors, Health Nurses, and, later, University students. He will advise on all matters connected with housing and town planning, urban and rural sanitation, and like matters.
He should possess the Diploma of Public Health.

Allowances, quarters and other circumstances affecting the value of the office.
£1300 p.a.
Salaries are converted for payment in local currency at a rate fixed from time to time by Government. They are at present paid at the rate of 1s/3d. to $1 so long as the Treasury rate of the dollar based on the average monthly rate of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank remains at or below that rate.
A deduction of 4% from salary is made as a contribution to the Widows' and Orphans' Pension Scheme.
Free quarters, or if Government quarters are not available an allowance equal to the actual amount paid for other accommodation subject to a maximum of $200 per month.
