The duties of a Medical Officer include any medical or surgical work in connection with any hospital, dispensary or other institution or any other medical or health duties which he may be required to perform. He must be fully qualified in Medicine, Surgery and Midwifery. It would be an advantage if the officer was a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons or held a similar special qualificat- ion in general surgery. Preference will be given to unmarried candidates.

£700 for two years, and thereafter £760 to £940 by annual increments of £30, and, subject to passage of an efficiency bar at this stage, thereafter £1000 to £1150 by annual increments of £50. A residential allowance of £50 per annum is payable from the fourth year of service inclusive while the officer is in the Colony.
Salaries are converted for payment in local currency at a rate fixed from time to time by Government. They are at present paid at the rate of 1/3d. to $1 so long as the Treasury rate of the dollar based on the average monthly rate of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank remains at or below that rate. A deduction of 4% from salary is made aș contribution to the Widows' and Orphans' Pension Scheme.

If Government quarters are provided whether in a hospital or elsewhere, the officer will be charged an economic rent as determined by Government not exceeding 15% of his salary. If no quarters are available and if the officer rents a separate tenement, he will receive an allowance equivalent to the amount by which the rent of a tenement deemed suitable to his status exceeds 15% of his salary. For this purpose, salary does not include resid- ential allowance.
