regarding the terms of recruitment of the European

Health Officers.

The other large increases in the schedule come

under the head of the Hospitals Division. The Director

of Medical Services reports that the existing staff of medical officers is seriously inadequate, especially in

unchanged during the past four years while a comparison

of figures for 1935 and 1937 shows that there has been

an increase of 41% in the number of in-patients and of

27% in the number of out-patients treated in these

hospitals.

application to increase the number of European medical

officers by two and I request that, if you approve, steps

may be taken to arrange for the recruitment of two suitable

officers in time to enable them to arrive in the Colony

as early as possible in 1939.
