The
less able to agree with the views of my predecessors. existing buildings are unlikely to have any other than a break-down value which may not exceed the cost of demolition. I can foresee no Government purpose for
which they would be suitable. I can, therefore, agree to compensation being paid for them by this Government only if, upon vacation by the Naval Hospital Authorities, permanent use is made of them by Government, and even so only for such buildings as are so occupied.

In case, however, their Lordships should wish
to recover the break-down value of the buildings I should think it reasonable that they should be allowed to retain possession of them for twelve months subsequent to vacation during which time the buildings could be demolished: if the Naval Hospital Authorities availed themselves of this opportunity the proceeds would be
