be advisable. It is considered essential by the Health Administration that each group should be able to isolate cases, and in view of the small stocks of sanitary and medical stores available, it urges that the despatch of such material should be included in the plan of collabora- tion, in order to facilitate isolation in particular.

In conclusion, I would like to convey the gratitude of my Government for the prompt manner in which this meeting has been held. It is indeed most important for us that a plan should be drawn up as soon as possible so that the foreign staff and the sanitary and medical stores may arrive in China without delay. My Govern- ment is in hopes that it may be possible for this plan to be put into operation in China within six weeks' time.

I am of course entirely at your disposal to communicate with my Government on any question which you may wish to raise. I need not say that my Government, and all my other fellow-countrymen, will deeply appreciate all practical assistance resulting from your goodwill in the humanitarian task which we have been obliged to under- take owing to the present unhappy events. In this connec- tion I cannot but seize the opportunity of expressing our appreciation of the work of Dr. Borcic, whose services were placed at my country's disposal by the League of Nations' Health Organisation. We are convinced that his example will be an inspiration to all those who go out to China under the programme which we are discussing to-day.
