shipped by s.s. André Lebon of the Messageries Maritimes, which

is due in Hong-Kong on or about January 7th, 1938, whereas the

drugs exported from the United Kingdom are being shipped by

the P. & O. s.s. Carthage, due in Hong-Kong on or about

January 20th, 1938. The drugs are packed with other medical

stores in wooden boxes consigned to Messrs. Jardine, Matheson

and Co. Ltd., Hong-Kong, and marked "Epidemic Commission, League

of Nations".

It is also proposed to lay down in Hong-Kong a general

stock of medical supplies for the needs of the medical units.

Among these medical supplies might be certain quanitites of

narcotic drugs.

If necessary, I shall have the honour to request

the kind assistance of your Government for the entry into

Hong-Kong of such additional drugs as soon as I am in

possession of the export authorisations from the countries of

origin and of information as regards time of shipment, arrival

in Hong-Kong, etc.

A copy of this letter is being sent to the Secretary

of State for Foreign Affairs in the United Kingdom, for

information.

The drugs exported from France include 250

ampoules of 0.01 morphine hydrochloride in 5 boxes of

50 ampoules each in regard to which the Secretariat has

not yet received a copy of the export permit.

The copy

has been requested from the French authorities and will

be transmitted to the Government of Hong Kong by air-mail

immediately on receipt from Paris.
