the command of the Company in 1931.
The Policy of the Chinese Company is to have an
efficiently trained body of men, so that, in case of emergency,
each member may be fit to become a non-commissioned officer
and be relied upon to take charge of a company of new recruits.
The Chinese Company has always taken a keen interest
in revolver shooting and its Sharp Shooters Squad have won
numerous local and outport competitions.
Not being contented with their achievement in revolver
shooting, the Chinese Company decided this year to join the
Hong Kong Rifle Association, which is affiliated with the
National Rifle Association of Great Britain, for the purpose
of entering in the various rifle competitions sponsored by
that body.
For this purpose an order was put through the Hong
Kong Sporting Arms Store of Hong Kong for the purchase of 10
Enfield Pattern 14 Kifles with lapped and balled burnished
barrels, adjusted woodwork for close grouping and testing and
zeroing at 200 yards. This order was not filled because the
War Office were not selling these rifles.
As this type of rifle is generally admitted as being
superior to the service Enfield rifle for target shooting and
will be only used for that purpose by the Chinese Company,
I shall be much obliged if you will use your good offices to
get these rifles for me.
I may mention that the Chinese Company is a voluntary
and self-supporting unit and the cost of these rifles is being
defrayed by friends and well wishers.
With kind regards,
Yours sincerely,
