Con, whe
Sir,
2
With reference to your letter (No.53857/37) of the
19th November, enclosing a copy of a despatch from the
Officer Administering the Government, of Hong Kong regarding
securities accepted for deposit under the provisions of
the Assurance Companies Act, 1909, I am directed by the
Board of Trade to say for the information of the Secretary
of State that the securities are prescribed by the Rules
of the Supreme Court (Order 22, Rule 17). The list of such
securities in use in the Board has been brought up to date by
reference to the Annual Practice, 1938, which contains the
Rules of the Supreme Court, and a copy of the revised list is
enclosed.
I am to add that under the Rules "Mortgages of freehold
and copyhold estates respectively in England and Wales" are
also acceptable, but it is understood that it is not now the
practice for the Supreme Court to accept them.

Colonial Office,
