I have the honour to refer to the observation on

the subject of the local manufacture of respirators

contained in your secret telegram No.11 of 13th of January,

1938, and to inform you that it is proposed to supply

respirators as follows:-

(a) 6,000 General Service type respirators, for Police,

Fire brigade, Medical, Decontamination Squads, and

Demolition Squad personnel.

(b) 26,400 Civilian Duty type respirators for personnel

engaged in the essential departments of the Civil

Service, public utility undertakings, dockyards,

distribution of food; essential transport and other

essential services.

(c) Approximately 72,000 General Civilian type respirators!

for the families of personnel detailed under (a)

and (b) above.

It is proposed that all the above respirators shall be

obtained from the United Kingdom.

2.

As regards the provision of respirators for persons

other than those engaged in essential services, this matter

is now under active consideration, and a further

communication will be forwarded as soon as possible.
