the various Colonies and probabilities of gas attack,

whilst not ruling out the possibility of some of them

making such applications, thought that they would be

few. Singapore was perhaps a likely one. Mr. Howard

said that an officer who had recently been in

Singapore had been sent home to consult the Air Raids

Precautions Department and had sent out to Singapore

a rather full scheme. Ceylon, Kenya and Sierra Leone,

Sir C. Parkinson thought, might also come on to the

list of possible applicants for A.R.P.0's; but it

pr was quite impossible to speak with any decision on

this point. Wing Commander Hodsoll said that, should

further applications be made to him, he would do his

best to find suitable candidates. He enquired whether

Palestine had made any such application and he was

informed that the reply was in the negative.

5. Wing Commander Hodsoll then pointed out that

the Governor of Hong Kong had said that one of the

duties of the A.R.P.0. would be to make arrangements

for the local manufacture of gas masks for sale to

the general public. He did not know what facilities

there were in Hong Kong for producing gas masks,

he thought it would be better if the supplies were

Qbtained from this country through his Department.

He was very anxious to keep one of the factories

engaged in this work employed after the initial rush

or orders had been executed.

and

Sir C. Parkinson said that a telegram shoulä

be sent to the Governor at once taking up this point

and at the same time telling him that we hoped to

secure a suitable Air Raid Precautions Officer very

shortly.
