I understand that there have been Press
enquiries in regard to cholera in Hong Kong.
The

the 24th of August.
It is understood that enquiries have been
made of the Publicity Officer and that the outbreak
has been connected with the Shanghai disturbances.
This, of course, is not the case. I under-
stand from Dr. O'Brien that no doubt arrangements are
being made to vaccinate the European population. I
don't know if it would be considered desirable to send
a short telegram to Hong Kong enquiring whether
vaccinali arrangements have been made to cautisionto the refugees
on arrival in view of the outbreak, un case in anquicias.
If
any
get special Statement QUDDANASIMOnt has to be made to the
Press, it might be that the first cases were reported
in the week ending the 31st of July and were 11 in
number, and that up to the 14th of August 167 cases
have occurred in addition to the original 11 with 111
deaths in addition to the original 11, making a total
178 cares and 122 deatles
of 10
in all.
It would be preferable not to make a Press
announcement but to give this information to enquirers,
and to point out that the epidemic started before any
question of evacuation from Shanghai arose.
