At present
there is no doubt that Germany is main foreign supporter of China from military point of view.
Not only is she
supplying arms and an unition” more abundantly than any other country but her military advisers are virtually running the war and are gradually pushing out other foreign advisers
They are represented on every particularly the Italians.
AS a
front and moreover are also in charge of ground anti- aircraft defence of Nanking and of the settlement of Kiangyin (grp. undec.] on the Yanguse the defence of which they have taken over permanently from Italians. result of their attitude there is no doubt that Germans have more than regained the confidence in them lost at the time of signature of German-Japanese anti-communist pact. That German Government hope to reap a reward after termina- tion of hostilities in the form of economic concessions goes I should think without saying.
How far their attitude will be modified by any active intervention of Russia on behalf of China is difficult to
estimate from here.
From conversations with German advisers however I am under the impression that strong German military support at present being afforded is dictated partly by a desire to prevent China from falling back too much on Russia.
