The new salary of £1100, with Wase-quarters
reckoned for pension computation at £150 a year, may,
I think be approved. The super scale salaries in the
Assistant Colony for such posts as the/Directors of Public Works,
Deputy Inspector General of Police and Senior Assistant
Colonial Treasurer, are £1300 a year, with free
quarters reckoned for pension purposes at £150 a year.
The post of Superintendent of Prisons is a
comparatively important one in Hong Kong, and I think
we may accept the Governor's recommendation.
The conf. reports on Mr. Hopkins are satisfactory,
though not particularly enthusiastic, and he will no
doubt be considered with other candidates, but in the
first place Proms may wish to suggest other names.
? Approve the new salary, and say that an officer
will be selected in due course.
