I have the honour to inform you that at a meeting of the
Executive Committee of the Fund for the Relief of Distress in
China held yesterday it was decided to place forthwith at the
disposal of His Majesty's Ambassador, for the purposes of the
Pund, as a first instalment, the sum of £5,000, this amount to
be disbursed as the organisation of which he has been good
enough to assume the Presidency considers most serviceable.
The amount in question is being remitted by the Hongkong
and hanghai Banking Corporation today and I am directed to
ask whether you will be so good as to inform the Ambassador of
this by cable.
I am,
sir,
Your obedient Servant,
H.M.Under-Secretary of State
